Back to School

It has reached that time of the year again when the kiddo's are back in school. I myself am over here jumping for joy!! It's crazy the amount of food these kids eat during the summer and once they are back in school my bill goes down. Some back to school tips and tricks that I have to make it much smoother for not only myself but for my kids as well.....

1.) Shower an hour before bed. This doesn't include brushing of the teeth quite yet, but at least have the shower out of the way so I'm not banging on the door because I haven't gotten my shower time in yet before the hot water runs out.

2.) Have wind down time after their showers. Anyone in the same boat with a kiddo that has ADHD or ADD? Over stimulation keeps my son up and wired for sound if he doesn't have time to chill.

3.) With that said there is controversy over giving kids melatonin. My son again has ADHD and has a hard time falling asleep with all the over stimulation he gets from school. This isn't something he is always taking before bed. He needs it for a couple of months and then he is good. He went all summer break without having to take it which was awesome!!

4.) Brush and Flush as we call it in our house when it's time to go to bed.

5.) Help pack lunch for the next day. Having a picky eater my son doesn't eat school lunch. He's 11 and is more than capable of helping pack his lunch for the next day.

6.) Check chrome books for school to make sure they are charged.

7.) Pick out the next day outfit for school, this has been a big game changer for the morning routine. Don't have to have a fit about what to wear when it's already been decided the night prior.

8.) Then off to bed to say prayers and go to sleep.

Kids become creatures of habit and once a routine is established within the home it makes it such a smoother transition from day to day. Now don't get me wrong, my son gets up early so I can drop him off with grandma to be taken to school. With that said there are some mornings that he just looks at me with a glare and says I'm not in the mood as he stomps his way downstairs. After a good 20 min from the time I wake him till the time he eats, he is in a much better mood.

It's about balancing out the home verse school routines. Find what works and give kids options and decision making power. Doesn't mean that they have to have complete control of everything. But if you give options and have them make decisions it makes them feel included on what they want the choice to be.

Check out the link below for the tower Power Strip Surge Protector. This is such a handy thing to have going back to what I said about making sure Chrome Books are charged for the next day!!
